The Gladys Porter Zoo is turning 40 years-old this week and zoo staff will be celebrating the milestone with a birthday party on Saturday.

There will be nine party booths set up around the zoo and admission will be significantly less than the regular rates. The zoo's Public Relations Coordinator, Cristina Caballero, stated, "For our 40th anniversary we are going to be offering 1971 prices here at the zoo. What we are doing is letting the kids in for .50 cents, the adults for a $1.50 and anyone with a student ID for a $1dollar. We just want to say thank you to our community for supporting us for all these years. Coming out to the zoo again. we just want to say thank you and have a big party."
