Loss of child inspires parents to start "Global Hug Day".

A Nevada couple has turned their grief into a new holiday.

They marked "Global Hug YOur Kids Day" on Monday.

Ron and Michelle Nichols created the holiday after losing their son to brain cancer.

"As a third grader he was a typical kid. And one day he was with us and almost literally the next day he wasn't," Ron Nichols reflects.

Mark Nichols was 8-years-old when he died.

"Mark was funny. He always had a joke he was always reading joke books. But what we remember about him most is he was really kind," says Nichols.

Now, Mark's life is carried on through the utmost display of kindness: a hug.

The Nichols founded "Global Hug Your Kids Day".

It's their mission to remind parents to never go a day without hugging their children.

Tomeko Young is a mom who admits sometimes she's in a hurry.

"To me the embrace is just so sweet," says Young.

She says she's never in too big of a rush to go without a hug.

"I'm like, 'wait a minute, Nia. Come back.' And then I give her a hug and a kiss and I say have a good day today," she says.

"Happy" was the common theme on Monday.

It's how the Nichols feel knowing their son's life will live on through something they wish they could still give him: a hug.
