Genetic Testing on the Rise

In this age of modern technology many people are starting to consider genetic testing to see if they're prone to certain illnesses. Genetic testing can show the essential make-up of a person's body and how genes may evolve over time. This type of testing can let you know years in advance if you'll suffer from Alzheimer's disease or if children will be born with Down syndrome. Doctor's say these expensive tests aren't fool proof and you need to be specific about what you're getting tested for as DHR Chief of Medicine Dr. Robert Martinez stated, "I think that is the important thing. In a day and age when there is so much information available and it can be bad information it can be good information and so the easiest thing is if you don't know you or if you have a question is ask your health care professional. They'll be more than happy to give you the answer, if they don't have the answer they will know where to go and get it." Doctors say anyone who wants to get genetic testing needs to make sure they're psychologically prepared for the answers.
