New Jersey mall opens for business in wake of Monday night shooting. Chris Clackum reports.
(NBC News) The mall in New Jersey that was the scene of a terrifying shooting Monday night has reopened.
Meanwhile police continue to piece together all that happened that left only the gunman dead.
Before the Garden State Plaza Mall re-opened to customers Wednesday morning it re-opened to mall workers, still shaken by what happened there.
"My chest is really hurting right now. I've been like this since Monday. I was shaking like a leaf" said mall worker Salinas Guzman.
Others were unfazed, though.
"No I'm not scared. We're living in these days and times. It is what it is," said mall worker Adrien Champion.
But it was very scary for hundreds at the Mall in Paramus, New Jersey.
That's when 20-year-old Richard Shoop, a suicidal pizza deliveryman from Teaneck, New Jersey barged into the mall and began firing off shots using his brother's rifle.
He never aimed at anyone in particular.
Police didn't know that until they talked to witnesses afterwards and until they found Shoop dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
That came as a shock to friends attending a memorial service Tuesday night.
"He called me two days before it happened and said he wanted to talk to me about something important but i didn't think was a serious as this," said Shoop friend Mark Olszewsky.
