Friendship of Women highlighting realities of domestic violence
RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — One in four women will fall victim to domestic violence in their lifetime and sometimes that abuse turns deadly.
Friendship of Women advocate Claudia Cerda stated, 'Last year we had 114 women who lost their lives as a result of domestic violence, this year we have 102."
With this month marking Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Friendship of Women, is trying to highlight the realities of intimate partner violence.
The hope is that the community as a whole addresses this epidemic, Cerda says sometimes people look the other way or don't want to get involved.
Over the past fiscal year, Friendship of Women assisted over three hundred men and women who were victims of abuse.
Coming up next week, Friendship of Women will host their 15th annual candlelight vigil to honor survivors and those who have lost their lives.
