Everett James Morris is facing murder charges.

Authorities say he killed 51-year-old Jorge Olivarez and left him in a ditch in Alamo more than a month ago.  Investigators tracked Morris to the country of Belize.  Morris turned himself into the U.S. Embassy last week.

"He does admit, confesses, to kill Mr. Olivarez," Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said.  "He only goes to that point, he's not very descriptive nor does he give enough details to indicate how he did it."

A home on Buchanon Drive in Pharr is where Morris lived and where the Sheriff said he murdered Jorge Olivares.  The Sheriff added that Morris probably committed the crime because the victim assaulted Morris' grown daughter.

Investigators can't speak to her because she fled to Belize with her father, but didn't turn herself in like he did.

"We believe at this point on Mr. Morris' confession, Mr. Morris' daughter was being assaulted by Mr. Olivarez. Mr. Morris became enraged and thus committed the homicide," Trevino said.

Morris possibly chose to flee to Belize because his family is part of a traveling missionary and has been there before.

The family has friends in the country, although investigators say those friends didn't know Morris was wanted for murder.

But there's another wrinkle to the story.

"He is in very poor medical condition," Trevino said. "He has psorosis of the liver, he has very serious medical conditions.  He decided he wants to give himself up."

Morris' connection to Olivares is not known.  The former missionary may have been trying to help the victim, who like to frequent bars and may have been homeless.
