The Hidalgo County Sheriff's department arrested former Finance Director for the school district and she was charged with theft on Friday morning.

Sylvia Yvonne Ruiz is accused of embezzling money from the Hidalgo Independent School District. The investigation into Ruiz started over five months ago after officials noticed that more than $110,000 worth of tuition payments were unaccounted for in the accounting books. Police say they were contacted by the school district to conduct a thorough investigation. According to witnesses, Ruiz would collect the money and not let anyone else make deposits.

Hidalgo I.S.D. issued a statement saying, " The Hidalgo school district cannot comment on any issues concerning former Finance Director, Yvonne Ruiz. We can confirm that the district requested the Sheriff's department's assistance in an investigation concerning the Finance Department this summer."

Bail for Ruiz was set at $250,000 dollars.
