MCALLEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A former Dallas Cowboys player wants children in the Rio Grande Valley to eat healthy.
Jay Novacek is part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign. He made his only visit for the campaign at Roosevelt Elementary in McAllen on Tuesday.
He talked to a cafeteria full of students about how important it is to eat right and related it to his professional football career.
"I've been retired since these kids have been born. So a lot of them don't even know me," Novacek said. "But if I can help out, if I can touch just four, five, half a dozen, couple dozen kids, then I'll be successful."
As part of a U-S Department of Agriculture campaign, free meals will be given out to 60 different locations in the Valley.
