With the Holidays approaching and food insecurity rates at an all time high, many organizations are trying to help feed the hungry.

The Food Bank of the RGV hosted it's annual Empty Bowls benefit to serve as a reminder that there is always an empty bowl to fill.  There is a large poverty rate in the Valley and with the economy being slow there are more families struggling. The Empty Bowls event is a yearly fundraiser for the local Food Bank in the RGV to raise money to distribute food throughout the counties.

Those who donated to the event were able to select a one of a kind ceramic bowl and also sampled food from local restaurants. Carlos Torres is a Rio Grande Valley hunger action hero and along with 35 other local restaurants, he donated food and time to the benefit. The Food Bank feeds over 30% of the Valley and they want to send out a strong message to those who are in need of food.
