RIO GRANDE VALLEY - Food allergies across the Valley are on the rise especially among children because allergies are usually considered hereditary, which is why we see more and more individuals becoming more sensitive every year.

The most common foods that cause allergic reactions are eggs, milk, peanuts and an assortment of nuts. There are two ways to find out if you are allergic to certain foods by taking a skin or blood test. Dr. Maria Falcon stated, "When you read the literature 50% of the time these results can be false positives and this needs to be explained to the patient, to the parent or the adult."

Doctors say unfortunately the only way to avoid getting the allergic reaction is to not eat those foods.
