Flood Waters Crest In Memphis

Tuesday, May 10, 2011 - 9:46am

Near record-level waters wash through neighborhoods.

The Mississippi River crested Monday night in Memphis, Tennessee at a near record-level of 48-feet.

Two weeks of high water have left homes and businesses submerged.

The frightening images have those down-river bracing for the worst.

In Vicksburg, Mississippi the water is already beginning to swallow homes.

As it continues to move in many are being forced to move out, and up to higher ground.

In Louisiana, where most of this water will ultimately end up, higher ground is hard to find.

The Army Corps of Engineers has opened 28 of the 350 gates on the spillway, diverting some of the water into Lake Pontchatrain.
