Five victims,including three children, drown after SUV plunges into shrimp basin

Five people are dead after the SUV they were in plunged into the shrimp basin in Brownsville, the dead range from just 4 years-old to 50.

Justice of Peace Erin Garcia reports a 50 year-old man, 30 year-old woman, 10 year-old boy, an 8 year-old girl and a 4 year-old boy all drowned inside the vehicle.

There was one survivor, a 14 year-old girl, who was rescued and is currently being treated at a local hospital.

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. with first responders being able to pull the vehicle from the water sometime after 6 p.m.

The Port of Brownsville Police are investigating the accident and viewing surveillance video as to the cause of the accident.
