Firefighters Working on the Palo Pintos Wildfires

PALO PINTO - Firefighters are working in excessive heat to contain two wildfires.

The fires are burning near the intersection of state highways 254 and 16, west of mineral wells.

They are believed to have been ignited by a lightning strike.

The Dark Valley fire has consumed about 500 acres, threatening at least one home.

A strike team from Parker county is moving to assist in the fight.

The fire is 45-percent contained.

The Rhodes Ranch 2 fire, which is also believed to have been started by lightning, has consumed about 600 acres and is 50 percent contained.
