Elsa, flaring flames ripping through a brush area behind John F. Kennedy School, bringing police and fire crews to Austin Street and Eleventh street Monday afternoon.
" i just came out right now--i just stepped out of my door when it begins i saw it started," said Michael Carnell. "It's scary because i have kids," said Mary Helen Carnell.
Police told neighbors to water their lawns in case the fire spread. News Center 23 spoke to a few neighbors and said someone playing with fireworks started the blaze.
"Somebody set off a firework and look what it has done, a little firework and look what it starting already," said Carnell.
The fire burned an area of dry grass behind the school and firefighters were able to contain the blaze preventing the fire from spreading any further. Michael Carnell says that if the brush was maintained it would of prevented the fire.
"Send a couple guys out here with lawn mowers and cut this down and re-cut over it and try to chop this stuff down," said Carnell.
News Center 23 called over to Elsa Fire Department, fire investigators would not comment on the official cause of the blaze, they told us it's still under investigation.
