CAMERON COUNTY - The federal government has withdrawn a request for a family detention center that would've had hundred beds in Texas.

A family detention center is a facility which holds undocumented immigrant families, including children. Krystal Gomez is a civil liberties union worker in Brownsville and her organization, along with 65 others, wrote a letter to ICE asking not to have a facility in Texas. Gomez says she has heard of many problems with these types of facilities, "The center that treated children like they were prisoners and kids as young as 8 months-old were having to prison uniforms and jumpsuits and they didn't have there a pediatrician on site."
