Father shoots and kills teen found in daughter's bedroom
HOUSTON, TX (CNN) — In Texas, police say a father shot and killed a boy he found in his daughter's bedroom in the middle of the night. The girl at first denied knowing the boy, but police have learned they were friends. It will be up to a Houston area grand jury to decide if charges will be filed, NBC's Charles Hadlock has more.
The family of 17-year-old Johran McCormick cannot understand how or why he died.
Shanell Curley, Father of Johran, "He don't have no weapons he's not that type of kid no play guns, no water guns, no bebe no nothing."
McCormick was shot and killed while secretly visiting a girl in this home north of Houston.
The girl's father told investigators that he heard noises coming from his daughter's bedroom around 2:30 in the morning. When he went to investigate, he found McCormick and his daughter in her room. Police say she initially denied knowing the boy. The father called 911. But before police arrived, the man told investigators the boy appeared to reach for something...
Sgt. Ben Beall, Harris County Sheriff's,"There was some type of altercation and the father shot the male one time."
Zakia Mccormick, Mother of Johran, "He didn't have to shoot him he didn't have to shoot him in the head."
It turns out McCormick and the girl were friends. Police say she let McCormick into the house and sneaked him into her bedroom.
Sgt Beall, "He was not a stranger. We don't know if the father knew him or not."
The father was taken to a local hospital, suffering from what police say was a panic attack following the shooting. No charges have been filed. The Sheriff's office announced that the case will be presented to a grand jury.

Now, instead of enjoying spring break, McCormick's family is planning his funeral.
