Fall Lawn Care

Recovering from this year's record drought may mean going no farther than your front yard.

The raid of the aerators is underway.

This year though, fall lawn care takes on added significance.

"Especially with the drought that a lot of the country had this year, doing those tasks is going to be really important to bring your lawn back to life," said Angie Hicks, founder of “Angie’s List.”

The drought took a toll on the green, green grass of homes nationwide.

But now through November is when you get going with repairs that Angie Hicks says must include aeration.

"Aeration’s an important part of that because it'll help to loosen up that soil that's potentially been dried out and baked solid," said Hicks.

Renting an aerator can be pricey, which is why she suggests going in with neighbors to rent one or collectively hiring someone to do it.

Aerating gives any re-seeded grass a better chance to germinate and makes soil more receptive to fertilizer.
