UTB'TSC celebrates Diez Seis de Septiembre.

Diez Seis de Septiembre is the Mexican Independence Day was celebrated on this side of the border at the University of Texas Brownsville.

Red, white and green filled the celebration remembering Mexico's independence from Spain. Mexican Consul Victor Manuel Trevino Escudero attended the colorful festivities and lead the traditional grito symbolizing Mexico's independence. Trevino Escudero says it is important for UTB to observe the Mexican holiday especially because the majority of the student body is of Mexican heritage.

Tony Zavaleta, representatives from the Mexican state of Coahuila was also on hand as well and teachers and students from El Collegio La Salle from Matamoros.
