Emilio Navaira's Brother Speaks about Bus Accident

By Mark Nino

Grammy award winning singer Emilio Navaira remains in critical condition following more brain surgery.

The tejano star known to fans as "Emilio" is in a medically induced coma at a hospital in Houston. Doctors operated on the singer last night to reduce swelling in his brain. Navaira was driving his tour bus when it slammed into an interchange barrier in Houston early Easter morning.

He was thrown through the windshield and several members of his band had less serious injuries. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Emilio's brother, Raul, spoke about the accident and what it was like inside the tour bus when it crashed. He says they finished the show and loaded up the bus. He fell asleep as they left the show and the next thing he knew was the roof was falling over him. He says the paramedics strapped him into a gurney and wouldn't let him near Emilio and that he shouted to Emilio that he loved him.

Raul says, their family remains optimistic and that Emilio is a strong man and he'll get thru this tragedy. Raul is still sporting a black eye from the accident and says, he finds it funny, how Emilio protected , one of his star qualities, his face. His face may look the same, but doctors say the tejano superstar is still in a coma, after operating on him again.

Hospital doctors say they removed a bone flap from his brain to prevent swelling. The doctors say, the operation they performed, is not unusual, and hope to replace the bone in the coming weeks.
