Rapper Kafani was alleged target.

Police in Oakland, California are investigating a mass shooting that left eight people, including a 1-year-old child, hurt.

All of the victims suffered gun shot wounds.

The shooting was reported early Monday evening.

By the time police arrived on the scene, most of the injured had already been taken to area hospitals in private vehicles.

Witnesses said dozens of shots were fired all at once.

There were reports the shooting happened while Oakland rapper Kafani was taping a music video.

Witnesses said Kafani was driving a van through the area when it was riddled with bullets.

There were conflicting reports about whether Kafani was among the people hit.

A van advertising his music was parked outside Highland Hospital.

It apparently took several victims from the shooting scene to the hospital.

Most of the victims were taken to Highland.

The infant was taken to Children's Hospital.

Police said the baby was hit in the head and was in critical condition.

All of the other injuries were not considered life threatening, according to police.

Police said they had no suspects in custody as of 10 p.m. and no suspect description was immediately available.

They also did not explain what motivated such a massive attack.
