Fans of the RGV Vipers basketball team can anticipate cheering on their team in a brand new arena soon.

The City of Edinburg announced plans for the construction of a new events arena to be built on the east side of I-69C on Alberta Road.

The 115,000+ sq. ft. arena will be the new home of the RGV Vipers, the NBA D-League Houston affiliate.  Mayor Richard Garcia says this project should bring significant economic benefits to the community.

"We had an impact study done by [UTPA], and it showed and told us that the immediate is gonna be $96 million.  It should bring $45 million annually to our city as an economic impact."

This new arena is expected to create approximately 150 new jobs.  The arena has not been given a name yet.
