Councilmember elect Richard Molina will be sworn in to office today during a special ceremony at Edinburg City Hall. The Ceremony will start at 12:15 p.m. Molina will fulfill the remaining 3 years and 8 months of Mayor Pro Tem Gus Garcia’s term which will expire in May of 2017. Garcia who was first elected in 2006 resigned his position to take over as Director of the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation.

Molina received 53% of the votes cast in the special election. He is a native of Edinburg and graduated from Edinburg North in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army and in operation Joint Forge-Bosnia. After the military Molina chose law enforcement as a career and worked with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department and as a Lt. with the Edinburg Police Department for 11 years.

He has volunteered as sponsor and coach for the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department’s Basketball Leagues and is a current member of the Lions Noon Club and the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce.

The Swearing in Ceremony will be held in the City of Edinburg Council Chambers located at 415 West University Drive.
