EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Edinburg Roadrunners are looking for a new home after the city rejected a lease deal with the team.
The University of Texas system is considering buying the Edinburg Baseball Stadium where the Roadrunners play. The city would rather not have a Roadrunners lease be a stumbling block in sales negotiations.
So the city council turned down an agreement to keep the team playing in the 4,000 seat stadium on Sugar Road and Schunior Street.
"Because we're in that transition right now, I think that's the reason why council didn't take action to renew or enter into an agreement so that it would not affect those discussions with the University of Texas system," Edinburg city manager Ramiro Garza said. "All it would do is instead of the Roadrunners dealing directly with the city, they might deal directly with the University of Texas system."
The Roadrunners are still expected to play in the stadium this upcoming season.
