Edinburg Resident Contracts West Nile Virus

HIDALGO COUNTY - The West Nile outbreak has hit close to home again.

County leaders will be holding a press conference tomorrow at the Hidalgo County Health Department, at the address on your screen, to share the latest developments the public is encourage to attend. West Nile Virus is a Mosquito Borne illness. In Texas this year, there have been a total of 1,066 cases of human illness due to West Nile Virus, with a total of 43 deaths.

The city of Edinburg and Hidlago County have begun spraying for mosquitos. Last night city and county crews will be actively fumigating areas of the county including the city of Edinburg for the next three days.

City officials ask residents to check their properties for standing water that could serve as a breeding ground for mosquitos.
