Edinburg native posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor
EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — An Edinburg native has his place in history, as he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama on Tuesday.
Edinburg native and Army Pvt. Pedro Cano was one of two dozen recipients to receive the Medal of Honor.
Private Cano served in World War II and used his rocket launcher to save his unit, killed more than a dozen German soldiers in a skirmish in 1944.
The following day he killed six soldiers and took out three enemy machine guns.
The other Medal of Honor recipients were from either World War II, the Korean war or the Vietnam war.
