At Weslaco Mid-Valley Airport, dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony.
A new facility at the airport will house the Department of Homeland Security General Aviation processing facility. The planes landing at the airport are not for commercial passenger flights. It will be more like cars crossing at port of entries, but in this case pilots can call a couple of hours before landing so that Custom Inspectors from Progreso can be on hand to process the plane and passengers.
Officials say the main people who will fly in, do business throughout the Valley and airport officials want the Weslaco Mid-Valley Airport to be the premiere airport for general aviation.
