Cremations in the valley are on the rise
The Ceballos Funeral Home in the McAllen has seen it all..
"We see so many violent deaths. People found in the river or woods. All over the place," said funeral director Anthony Tijernia. "We've seen an increase."
One of the most difficult decisions a family has to make after the death of a loved one is what to do with the body. With these tough economic times families in the valley are seeking alternatives to a traditional burial.
"A lot of people tend to ask me what is our most economical service you have available," said Tijerina.
The cremation process costs around $1500. Burials can cost up to six times that amount.
Because of the low cost funeral homes in the valley have seen an increase in cremations within the last few years.
"The economy isn't the only reason why people are seeking alternatives. It's also because the catholic church has become more open to the creamation process."
Some say the increase in cremation requests is an indication that times have changed..
