BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Don't let the innocent name fool you, Molly is no lady. She's the street name for this year's hottest club drug.
"The drug enforcement administration says the drug Molly is used to promote elation, feelings of closeness, empathy and sexuality. It is also known as a club or party drug."
The drug is the powder or crystal form of MDMA --the chemical that is the active ingredient in the drug ecstasy. Molly is popular at music festivals and is referenced in a lot of current Pop and Hip-hop music. The drug is psychedelic and produces feelings of elation and energy. It has no legitimate medical use and it is illegal.
"I think we're going to see a little more of it perhaps not as much as marijuana but perhaps we're going to see more than we've been seeing lately."
The dangers of taking Molly include elevated heart rate, irregular heart rhythms, and even possible seizures or comas. Reporting from Brownsville, Abigail Camilo, KVEO Newscenter 23.
