Driver, with three prior DWI charges, arrested after crashing into police car

San Benito police arrested a man, with a suspended license, for intoxication after he plowed into a officers unit.

On Sunday, August 10th at around 5 a.m. officers were directing traffic on Expressway 83 in reference to an auto pedestrian accident.

An officer was directing traffic warning drivers to slow down and detour onto FM 509 as authorities continued their investigation.

The directing officer, standing away from his unit, noticed a gray vehicle traveling in the middle lane and disregarding his directions, the vehicle struck the officer's police unit on the front right tire causing the deployment of the airbags.

The driver was identified as Eric Damian Dominguez, 34, from La Feria who suffered only minor injuries and showed signs of intoxication with several bottles of beer found inside the vehicle.

A background checked indicated that Dominguez had a suspended license and three prior arrests for driving while intoxicated. Additionally, Xanax pills were found in his possession and a warrant was issued for a blood draw.

Dominguez was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and handed a bond of $55,000.
