LA JOYA - Over a ton of marijuana was taken off the streets on Tuesday as DPS troopers seized 2,500 pounds of the drug inside a compartment in a tractor trailer.

It happened off of Expressway 83 in La Joya around 2:30 AM during a routine traffic stop. The driver, Valdermin Chavez, from Florida was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
