It's Semana Santa or Holy Week for thousands of Mexican nationals who enjoying their time off, and coming over to the valley but some downtown store owners in Brownsville say they are seeing less business
Cars are lined up the Gateway International Bridge looking to cross into the United States. But businesses say they are not seeing the numbers they have seen in the past. This downtown store worker says she has seen fewer customers and a drop in sales.
She says it's because of the economy. That's the reason Rene Munoz from Matamoros like many others are window shopping instead of buying like they did in the past. She says the exchange rate is higher and that's why she is buying less.
This Brownsville resident usually has family come over from Mexico and enjoy the shopping, but this easter they are celebrating in Mexico.Businesses are hoping that more people will come downtown and hopefully help boost their sales.
