Several women across Texas and in the Valley are upset by Governor Perry's recent actions on the Texas Medicaid Women's Health Program.

The program provides preventative health care to more than 130,000 women in the state and the women associated with the Don't Mess with Texas Women group accuse the governor of attempting to  reducing the number of providers and they say those providers he's attempting to cut out are those who have ties to abortion clinics. Planned Parenthood, in McAllen, would be one of those providers that would be taken off the list and they report that they help more than 7,000 women locally. Hidalgo and Starr County Planned Parenthood Dr. Patricio Gonzalez stated, "This is the last safety net for women in Texas, for poor women, for uninsured women and this would be a tragedy to let it go, just because of politics and I urge the governor to please rethink this."

Planned Parenthood says if the federal government cuts funding because of Governor Perry's actions there will be close to no place for uninsured women to get items like birth control and basic health tests.
