Dogs Wheelchair Stolen
Owner pleads for return of device that gave her best friend mobility.
A Cranston, Rhode Island woman says she cannot believe someone would steal her disabled dog's wheelchair.
Marilyn Proulx was astonished when she went to take her dog Jack for a walk Tuesday night.
Jack's customized wheelchair, which she kept on the side of her house, was gone.
She said it was swiped in a matter of hours.
Jack, a lab and shepherd mix, has two herniated discs and has lost the use of his back legs.
To get around Marilyn has to pick him up by his hind legs.
He's been using the wheelchair for about three months now, which allowed him to actually run because his front legs are strong.
Marilyn says you could see Jack was excited about taking walks again and the chair made him whole.
"I think mentally, emotionally, physically; it's awful. He can't take walks anymore. I have to help him in and out of the house with a sling," she says. "I just can't imagine his living the rest of his life without being able to walk anymore."
Marilyn reported the theft to police.
It will cost more than $600 to replace Jack's wheelchair.
