Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance Holds PTSD Seminar
Experiencing a traumatic event such as 9/11 or surviving a vicious crime or natural disaster may have long term effects. That's why the Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance held a seminar on Wednesday in Edinburg to discuss post traumatic stress disorder.
Several members of the community gathered to take an indepth look at the disorder. Psychiatrists spoke to victims and family members about different ways to treat symptoms such as flashbacks, anxiety and depression. The seminar was created to inform those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder that they are not alone.
Dr. Jose Igoa, who spoke at the event, said, "There's a lot of help. There's definitely a lot of treatment for it. Go ahead and contact your family physician or psychiatrist or a counselor to get involved and get treated. Don't suffer in silence."
The hospital hosts these seminars at least once a month and are open to the public free of charge.
