Discoverys Final Flight
Space Shuttle Discovery arrives in Washington, where it will soon go on display at the Smithsonian.
Space Shuttle Discovery left Kennedy Space Center for the final time at daybreak Tuesday, sitting on top of a jumbo jet.
Discovery is headed to the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum for permanent display at the museum annex at Dulles Airport near Washington.
Before landing, though, there was a dramatic fly-over of the National Mall, the sight framed by the capitol's iconic monuments.
The retired shuttle is the most flown spacecraft in history.
It made 39 trips into space over the 28 years NASA used it.
The Smithsonian hangar where discovery will now reside is just off the runway where it had its final touchdown.
