Department of Public Safety Reports of Phone Scam

If you get a phone call asking to pay for overdue red light tickets from the Department of Public Safety, it's a scam.

DPS officials are reporting that scammers have been calling people in the state and demanding residents to immediately pay for the tickets. The scammers will state that an arrest warrant will be issued, if the person receiving the call, does not provide a credit card number as well as a social security number and additional personal information.

DPS says they do not collect traffic fines or oversee red light cameras and reminds residents that the department does not call requesting charitable donations.
