Two skiers have died in the past week after hitting trees at Lake Tahoe resorts. Richard Sharp reports.

(KCRA) Two skiers died within the last week after crashing into trees at two Lake Tahoe resorts.

Neither skier wore a helmet according to deputies from the Placer County Sheriff's Department.

The first death took place at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on February 12. An employee skiing on his day off hit a tree and suffered a head injury.

"Unfortunately, he had the accident and no one knew about it until the next day when a snow-shoer happened upon him," said Dena Erwin, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Department.

The worker, an 18-year-old from Brazil, was employed on an exchange visa.

Then on Friday, Valentine's Day, another skier died, this time at Northstar-at-Tahoe.

A 43-year-old Belmont man hit a tree and died, the Sheriff's Department said.
