Drug seizures continue to happen, even during the Thanksgiving holiday, as Border Patrol agents seized more than $5.3 million dollars worth of marijuana.

Agents were able to seize more than a thousand pounds at the Falfurrias checkpoint after a K-9 dog alerted the agents. Another bust happened near Madero where agents saw a group of smugglers carrying large bundles from the Rio Grande river. Agents approached the men who then jumped into the river and swam back onto the Mexican side of the river leaving behind the bundles of marijuana totaling nearly 700 pounds.

Weapons were also seized as 14 assault rifles, three handguns and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition at the Hidalgo International port of entry. Two men, that were traveling back into Mexico, were questioned and their vehicles searched by Custom agents who found the weapons. Both men are in immigration custody for further questioning.
