It was far from a normal day for second grade students at Doctor Carlos Casteneda Elementary School in McAllen, the students received a special visit from current and former Houston Astros players as they read to the kids in both English and Spanish.  "It is good that we can pass on the language of Spanish, that is very important for them, especially down here", said Astros Pitcher Carlos Corporan.

Former Astro great Jose Cruz along with current players: Carlos Corporan, and Lucas Harrel and the teams' General Manager, Jeff Luhnow got a chance to hang out with the kids and teach them a little bit about the game and the importance of staying in school.  Jose Cruz said, "It is important to have a good education and you know especially when they like sports."

Pitcher Lucas Harrell also spoke about the importance of reaching out to kids, especially at a young age.  Harrell said, "For me as a kid, i had a dream of playing baseball so when the Cardinals would come and read to me it was nice, also when they meet us, they meet us not just as baseball players but as normal people."

For the kids it was a big deal to interact with the players and hear their stories.  One of the students who was excatic following the visit , Stephanie Tamhuynh said: "They read us two stories about baseball and the players and they  signed autographs and we got to take pictures and then we got to ask them a few questions."

The players along with their manager will be making several stops in the valley during the next few days including visits to other schools and local hospitals.
