Cupcake Shop Supports Breast Cancer Awareness
MCALLEN — It's hard to find someone who breast cancer hasn't affected.
"I do know a survivor, one of my co-workers," said customer, Debra Sauceda.
Sauceda is stopping by CC's Sweets & Tweets in McAllen to pick up the "Hero" commemorative cupcake for her friend who was diagnosed a year ago.
"She still showed up to work every single day, minus the days she had to go out of town to get treatment, but just such a strong individual and I really admire her for that," said Sauceda.
Roberta Castillo was thrilled when she was asked to make a cupcake that signifies breast cancer awareness.
"It's really just for us to give back, I mean we just wanted to do something for the community," said Castillo.
The shop started baking the pink velvet cupcake topped with pink butter cream icing at the beginning of the month.
The cupcake sells for $2 and 100% of proceeds go to the Renaissance Cancer Foundation at Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance.
Castillo says she's doing her part and so are customers like Sauceda, too.
"They also want to give a little gift and so we'll gift package the cupcake for them so that they can give that to that person," said Castillo.
The overall response has been very positive.
"If there's a big network of us doing a little bit of good, we can do something really great," said Sauceda.
The shop will continue selling the "Hero" cupcake until the end of the month.
