WEST, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Federal law enforcement officials say it's far too soon to know whether there's a connection between last month's explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas and the arrest of a man there who's accused of having an explosive device.
The officials confirm that the man is Bryce Reed, a volunteer EMS technician who said his best friend was killed fighting the resulting fire. Reed also recorded a eulogy for the victim. Reed has also had a high profile in subsequent reports about the explosion.
Authorities say a friend of Reed's discovered that he had explosives and notified the local sheriff's office. The case is now being handled in federal court, where Reed is expected to appear later today.
Because of the force of the explosion and the ferocity of the fire, officials say it will be slow going to determine the cause of the disaster at the plant, though one official says investigators have not yet found any indication that the plant explosion was caused by a bomb.
