Woman arrested for attempting to smuggle child at port of entry

Officers with Custom and Border Protection arrested a woman, from McAllen, who allegedly attempted to smuggle an infant into the United States.

On Thursday, May 23, a American female, 20, traveling with a minor male child arrived at the pedestrian walkway at the Hidalgo/Reynosa port of entry.

The female presented a Texas ID and a U.S. birth certificate for the child, who she claimed was her nephew, officers then referred both to a secondary inspection for further questioning.

The female revealed that the child was not related to her and officers arrested her on charges of on alleged violation of U.S. immigration law.

The biological mother of the baby was contacted and she took custody of the child.
