Unlicensed driver gets additional charges after hit and run incident
HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — A Harlingen man is arrested on several charges after a hit and run incident is reported by a victim.
On Wednesday, July 31st, at around 10:30 p.m. a woman contacted the Harlingen Police Department to report that she was a victim of a hit and run accident on the 900 block of East Matz.
She stated that an unknown man, driving a maroon Monte Carlo, had struck her vehicle, parked in the street and then abandoned his damaged car a few blocks away from the scene.
Police were able to find a registered address, of the abandoned vehicle, and discovered it had been taken without consent from the owner.
Police were able to locate the driver, identified as Michael Aaron Deleon, 20, and arrested him on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, duty on striking unattended vehicle, no driver's license and having seven outstanding warrants totaling over $3,000 in fines.
