Two additional men charged in UTPA kidnapping case
McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Two men have been ordered detained by a Magistrate judge in connection to the kidnapping of a female student at the University of Texas Pan American.
Miguel Angel Navarro, 35, and Onan Herrera-Sanchez , 24, are being held without bond pending further criminal proceedings and a third person, Milton Leonel Trevino, 20, has been detained in the same case.
All three have been charged in a two count indictment, in April, with hostage taking and conspiracy to commit hostage taking.
A federal complaint was filed back in March 2013 in which a female student was kidnapped from the UTPA parking lot on September 25th around 7:15 p.m.
She was forced into a vehicle by Herrera-Sanchez, with Navarro driving and Trevino as a passenger, and taken and held at Trevino's home. The victim's father was called and a ransom of $100,000 was demanded in exchange for the victim's life.
The next day Trevino called the victim's father and informed him he could pickup his daughter at a residence in Pharr and she was released later that day.
Each man faces up to life in prison and a possible fine of $250,000 on each count.
