Three individuals have pleaded guilty to a family-run tax fraud scheme in federal court.

Judy Lynn McCune, Loretta Ann McCune and Rania Ann Sanchez pleaded guilty for conspiring to defraud the federal government in a scheme to prepare federal tax returns in the name of deceased individuals.

Judy McCune admitted she recruited members of her family in obtaining Social Security numbers and dates of birth for dead individuals through the internet and then filing both in paper and electronic tax returns using the identities of those deceased people.

The refund checks were directly deposited into a bank account or mailed to the personal addresses of the accused. The scheme consisted of nearly 340 false claims totaling $763,124.

The three women face up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
