A homicide suspect has been arrested by Custom agents at a Brownsville port of entry for the murder of a Harlingen woman.

Custom and Border Protection officers, working the Veteran's International port of entry on Sunday, encountered Edgar Diaz Garces, 22, from Harlingen as he attempted to cross into the U.S. as a passenger in a black Dodge Avenger.

Officers received an alert on Garces indicating a possible match on two first degree homicide and attempted murder warrants in the investigation of  the death of woman killed outside her apartment back in April 2013.

A secondary check, from a law enforcement database, confirmed the warrants and Garces was arrested and handed over into custody to the Harlingen Police Department.
