Suspect gets away once, but not twice from authorities

San Benito police arrested a man for criminal trepassing, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

Police were called on Sunday at 3:15 a.m. to the Super 8 motel, located on the 2300 block of West Expressway 83, about a suspicious male attempting to enter several rooms.

When officers arrived, they spotted a man wearing dark clothing, and attempted to question him, but he fled on foot and police were unable to locate him.

At 7:44 a.m. , police responded to a call at the USDA Office, located on the 2300 block of West Expressway 83, about a male entering the business without proper authorization.

As officers arrived, they spotted a man wearing dark clothing, walking on the frontage road and attempted to make contact with the person, but he took off running into a wooded area. Police were able to locate the man hiding in the brush and after some resistance arrested the man.

The suspect was identified as Adrian Leeroy Mendieta of Los Fresnos and later determined, by guests from the hotel, to be the suspect from the Super 8 incident.

Mendieta was charged with two counts of criminal trepass, resisiting arrest and evading arrest on foot and given a bond of $6,000.
