Shoplifters do a reverse on a home improvement store by attempting to return merchandise and then walking out with it.

On Thursday, August 8th at around 8 p.m. police were called to the Home Depot on Highway 48 in reference to a theft.

When officers arrived they were informed that the suspects and the vehicle they were in had just left the location. A patrol unit was able to locate the vehicle, which was traveling on Fruitdale, and make a traffic stop.

The driver of the car, identified as Bobby Cardona, 45, opened the door and fled on foot leaving behind two other individuals, Ana Ayala, 25, and Jose Medrano, 37 and they were detained.

Investigators viewed the surveillance video, from the store, showing Medrano and Ayala entering the store and loading a basket with an air conditioner and several high dollar faucets.

The stolen merchandise was returned to the store and all three suspects were arrested.

Medrano was charged with theft and engaging in organized criminal act, Cardona with two counts of theft, engaging in organized criminal act, evading arrest on foot and evading arrest with a motor vehicle and Ayala was charged with theft  and engaging in organized criminal act.
