A driver, who was stopped for a traffic violation, ended up being arrested for possession of drugs in a drug free zone.

On Thursday, March 28, a patrol officer conducted an early morning traffic stop on a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo, driven by Edward Estrada, 32, on the 400 block Julian Street. Estrada exited his vehicle and attempted to enter his home when the officer ordered him back to his vehicle.

The officer requested permission to conduct a search on the car and Estrada gave consent. During the search a white powdery substance in a plastic baggie, which tested positive for cocaine, and a marijuana cigarette were found in the console.

Estrada was asked about the narcotics and his response was "I'm old school, I don't know anything." The officer placed Estrada under arrest and he was taken to the city jail.

Due to the narcotics being found within 1,000 feet of Fred Booth elementary the charges were enhanced to possession of a controlled substance drug free zone and possession of marijuana drug free zone and the judge setting Estrada's bail at $20,000.
