HARLINGEN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — A Harlingen officer was arrested Sunday for an alleged sexual assault.

Officer Elias Cordona was taken into custody, intoxicated, and charged with sexual assault of a female on South Padre Island. He was arrested, while off duty, on the beach near the 500 block of Padre Boulevard.

Cordona has been with the Harlingen Police Department since February 2011. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay while authorities investigate the incident and no bond has been set
